Hugh, others

I don’t think you should ever rely on Manifold contacting you by email, just
because you’ve bought a previous version of the software. Although they’re a
smaller organization than (say) Microsoft, we don’t expect Microsoft to
necessarily contact us when there is a Service Patch to the Office suite.

[ However, Microsoft does have an opt-in /opt-out system of regular email
notifications that a client may individually subscribe to, which gives
product news or more. I believe that it would be helpful if Manifold Net Ltd
adopted their preferred variation on this very common practice. ]

My experience is that Manifold Net Ltd considers it your responsibility to
keep abreast of any changes, and that would mean via the primary website
http://manifold.net/ (which has been given a welcome make-over since I
last looked at it, 3+ months ago); and also via the defacto support
mechanism, the so-called “community site” at http://69.17.46.171/Site/ (or
http://forum.manifold.net/Site/ ).

I do think that it would be a helpful gesture if Manifold would include a
footnote with each posting on this Manifold-L email list, that directed
readers to http://manifold.net/ and http://forum.manifold.net/Site/

For the “occasional correspondents” who use this list as their primary
contact with the Manifold world, I think that would be helpful.
