[Manifold-l] Image visibility (version 7.latest)

Hello:
I've just successfully imported and Georeferenced a BMP RGBa map
image. Only the graticule seems to be visible initially. Unticking
"alpha" in the layer pane seems to make the whole image visible (?).
Now I've imported it into another project, added it to a map but
can only see the graticule. Monkeying with the "alpha" attribute makes no
difference. What is "alpha"? Should I use a different kind of image?
Can anyone suggest what might be going on here and how I can
actually see the image? Top or bottom and opacity have no effect.
Also, where should our questions be directed? I see this list is
falling out of favour but notice that there are several fora in use. Which
is the one? I only use Manifold intermittently so don't always get the
latest hints.
Thanks very much . . . . .
