Forgot to address: assuming you are importing a batch of XY points
that represent more than one line somehting is needed to say which
points make up which line. If it is all one line then you need a dummy
column to group those points together.

There are limitations on the method I mentioned above in that the
paste dialog does not support converting points to lines - sorry about
that. The Gaberial Network might do the trick for you but it can get a
bit wild and crazy at times. Best to use the line import.
