[Manifold-l] multiple hyperlinks from a single location

Hello Manifolders,

 

I sent a request to Manifold sales about this feature some time back; I give
a whole article on why this is so important.

 

I would love to see the ability to have more than one URL, personally I
think the name URL should be changed to "hotlink" URL more pertains to
internet links, the reason why I am saying this is because one can attached
not only internet links to the URL in Manifold but it can be used to call or
open up other hotlinks too such as Images, a word document, an AutoCAD file
etcetera. 

 

Anyways back to the main point

 

Imagine the ability to have more than one URL (hotlink) attached to point,
this can be accomplished via a drop down list pane that pops up when you
double click on the object (lets say a point), once the pane shows up (which
can be shown only when multiple links are attached to the point) you can
choose from a number of URL (hotlinks) that you have written in the hotlinks
input fields as the one you want to display.

 

I had a presentation made to the Government about two months ago. 

The presentation was about inadequate housing, we live in a Hurricane zone
and wanted to illustrate to the government the importance of using GIS
(Manifold was used) to determined inadequate housing and its relation with
emergency shelters.

 

To make it short, if you know the amount of people that live with-in
inadequate housing you can then determined the space requirements of your
emergency shelters, not only that but other information was also important
such as language, medical status etcetera.

If you have a good amount of Spanish people that live with-in these
inadequate housing then you may have to appoint some one from the red cross
or emergency team that can to provide important information to the people in
their own language, this is very much needed once the percent of English
speaking people for each geo-zone was shown.

 

 

For the multiple links, well I also wanted to show them (government) how the
inspection department can link actual plans of buildings to the same
building footprint and also actual images of the inadequate housing. 

I could not link both the image and the AutoCAD file to the same object
(hotlink), in order to accomplished the effect I literally had to make a
copy of the Building drawing, so I ended up with two one saved with a URL
for Images and one saved with a URL for an AutoCAD file. 

One could say I could have just created a Center point of the building
footprint and used that as the other URL, but in any case I would still end
up with an additional drawing.

 

So I will definitely support (as always) multiple URL (Hotlinks) feature in
Manifold.

Send Manifold sales a request on this feature as I did in the past, remember
the more people request the more a priority it will have in the design and
implantation development of manifold Professional and by the way I didn't
know that ArcGIS had the capability of multiple hotlinks.

 

Iis there another way I could have achieve the above with out creating
another drawing?

I have an access database where numerous documents are linked to a single
point location, when I go to make a layer out of this data if there is more
than one link to a document a one to many relationship occurs and multiple
versions of the same location are generated each with a different url. The
problem with this is that in manifold when you select a location it does not
recognised there are multiple locations at the exact same spot. In ArcGis if
there is more than one feature in the exact same position you get the option
to choose which one you want to look at.   I have tried to find ways of
creating other colums for the other URLs but there is no way I can find that
does not require manual manipulation. 

any suggestions for how to do this in manifold?
