[Manifold-l] v 7.1.2.408 and tif Files

I just reported an "Unknown error" bug to tech support too. It didn't have
anything to do with Tiff files, although the map files do contain images,
among many other components. Here's the report that I sent in:
This build seems to have a particularly annoying bug. It manifests itself
as a refusal to shut down. It has happened on two different machines, a
desktop and a laptop. Here's what happens:
With a map file open, I try to shut Manifold down. When asked if I want to
save changes, I select no. Manifold then reports an "Unknown Error" and
refuses to shut down. The only way to shut Manifold down is to use the Task
Manager. Even using the Task Manager, Manifold brings up the "Unknown
Error" message. Task Manager is then unable to shut Manifold down normally,
and gives me the message: "The system cannot end this program because it is
waiting for a response from you." If I click "End Now" on that info box,
Task Manager then forces Manifold to shut down.
Once I discovered this problem, I was reluctant to let this version of
Manifold save my work, but I did make a copy of a map file for testing. I
found that if I initiate a shut-down and then select "Yes" to save changes,
the file gets saved, but then the "Unknown error" information box comes up
again and Manifold will not close.
The two machines are a desktop and a laptop. Both use Windows XP Home
Edition with all current updates. Both have AMD Athlon processors.

For what it's worth, I reported a similar problem - it was confirmed as a
bug:
I downloaded this (b2zipped HDF) file:
http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/getfile/T20062652006272.L3m_8D_NSST_9.bz
2
Unzip the file (with 7zip), import into Manifold using /Import/Surface/HDF -
select "l3m_data", OK
(That results in a surface "l3m_data" and 3 comments components).
I Assign the projection for the surface, then create a map with the surface
"l3m_data".
At this step, the map shows a version of the surface that has many more
invisible pixels in the equatorial region, and the valid data are selected
but the original surface is still shown correctly. If I try to zoom in to
the map, the surface window updates to look like the map window (more
invisible pixels, and selected visible pixels), and then a popup "Unknown
Error".
I can't do anything but kill the application with Task Manager - Manifold is
toast at this stage, repeatedly displaying "Unknown Error" - here's a screen
shot of the error and the surface when first imported.
