[Manifold-l] <- Image Catalogs in Manifold ->

The reply by Dimitri Rotow to an email that I didn't receive perplexed me -
until I received and read the Manifold-L Digest.

<off-topic>
For some time now, I have subscribed to the digest (as well as the
as-it-comes list) because of "missing" list posts. But I don't often
cross-check them.

(Checking the digests shows that I don't even have a sequential set of them
- so, it's not a great fall-back system, anyway. Oh, the problems of
technology!)

Just for future reference (and I'm guessing this), the <- xxxxx -> in the
subject was filtered by the directionsmag (?or my iinet.net.au) email
processing, and so it wasn't on-sent.

The subject was <- Image Catalogs in Manifold ->

So, is the lesson to NOT use <- subject -> ?

The offending email post is below my sign-off - just for reference.
</off-topic>

I assume that "Simon Greener's catalog tool" is mentioned on the Manifold
Community Forum - yes?

Subject: Welcome to the "Manifold-l" mailing list (Digest mode)

Welcome to the Manifold-l at lists.directionsmag.com mailing list!
Welcome to the Manifold-l list. Some notes on the list:

1. This is an unmoderated list that is not reviewed by manifold.net
personnel. Other participants on this list are GIS users like you who
are participating on their own time who have an interest in discussing
Manifold System.

2. If you would like to reach manifold.net for technical support,
visit the manifold.net web site's Support page. For information on
making suggestions, see the Suggestions URL in the Support page.

3. Please do not pursue threads in direct emails to other people
unless invited to do so. If you post a question and someone replies,
follow up by making a post to the list where everyone can see the
discussion and where people can choose to answer or not. Do not
launch threads by addressing an individual person, as this is list is
broadcast to the entire community and is not a replacement for
individual emails.

4. This list is for topics of direct interest to the use of Manifold
System. Please do not launch threads on other software packages or
non-Manifold themes such as spam, gossip about individuals, religious
or political topics.

5. If you have a commercial announcement, such as news of a new
training course or product that works directly and specifically with
Manifold, it is OK to post a short announcement with a URL to which
interested parties can refer. Example: News of a new training course
for Manifold is OK. News of a new training course for Windows is
spam, because it is not specific to Manifold.

6. Do not set up "out of office" autoresponses on your email
address that is subscribed to this list, as these end up being
broadcast to many thousands of people when you are away.

7. Do not attach files to postings or make excessively long postings,
such as including thousands of lines of code in a posting.

8. As always, keep it clean and respectful with a focus on the product
and the technology.

Welcome aboard!
I have a couple of questions regarding image catalogs in Manifold 7.

I am working with large sets (5000 photos of c. 8 megs) of orthophotos and
would like to use a cataloging approach similar to the unmanaged dbf (fields
IMAGE, XMIN, YMIN, XMAX, YMAX) image catalogs used in ESRI products.

I already have the dbf image catalogs which have been created using ArcGIS.
First question: is it possible to use these catalogs in Manifold.

I have tried using Simon Greeners catalog tool but to no avail. I presume
since his tool creates a similar catalog dbf file there should be no issues
in using the ESRI created catalog in Manifold?

So can anyone explain how I might use the already created dbf image catalogs
in Manifold or point me in the right direction?

Regards,

Frank
