It isn't clear which aspect of the project might benefit from scripting.

If your source data has the attributes (elev, grade, ID numbers, etc.) then
aren't you just looking at creating label layers and adding them to the
other vector layers on a map?

Could be ignorance on my part - what are "inverts"?
