[Manifold-l] SELECTIONS IN MAPS

Richard,

If you don't have it already, I strongly suggest getting the "Introduction
to Manifold GIS 6.0" at :

http://www.gisadvisor.com/

The training video will pay for its self in improved understanding and
productivity within the first week. You'll learn the basics of navigating
through Manifold, as well as some of the more advanced functions. It will
get you up to speed much faster than using the Manifold documentation
alone. All of the training videos from GIS Advisor are excellent, but at
minimum, for new users, I think the one I mentioned above is a must have.

Thanks Graeme - yes will look at docs on selections again - much to
digest.
I do find the Help file very good, but when one doesn't know what to ask
or
where something might be I find Manifold a bit unforgiving in this area.
Its interesting how other programs tackle the help issue - some are
brilliant - others written by those obviously well versed in the program
but
seemingly oblivious to those who come in stone cold and have to seemingly
grope about in the dark - Manifold doesn't fit the latter - just
emphasising
the differences.
many thanks
regards
Richard

Use layer restrictions if in a map window (temporarily turn off
selectability). Alternatively use the smart mouse select tools, not just
the
default cursor for selecting, which you are possibly doing. That will
honour
the object types (eg areas, points, lines) toggled on/off. Have a re-visit
of the selections doco, there's a lot to take on board!
