Interesting thread.  I would suggest however that the forum actually saves a little more time and effort, as the threads
are more easliy contained.  The forum does not require a login unless you want to post, and even then, the login can be
done from any place - so if you're reading a post, you don't have to "leave, login, and return", you just login, and now
you can reply to that post.  There's also a good search capability.

Having said that, it would be nice to be able to track or flag certain threads to monitor them.  I do like this list as
well in concept, however the Directions Mag people seem to be having to many issues to make it worthwhile for me now. 
The other solution would be to - similar to MapInfo from what I understand - move this list to another list server such
as Google or Yahoo...
