My experience with USB to serial converters is that the reliability of being able to make a seamless connection varies among the brands. If you buy a cable that does not work with the two devices being connected, then get another brand. Once you find a brand that works reliably, then stick with it. The more expensive cable are usually better bets towards finding a brand that works reliably.

I've had good success using a USB to serial converter with a Magellan and a laptop running WinXP. One thing to note though, some of the older converters are not comapatible with XP, so make sure you have one that ids fully XP compatible.

Subject[Manifold-l] gps and usb
I have a Garmin GPS with a serial cable. I also have to purchase a laptop, but the computer I want has no RS232 port.
Has anyone been successful in using an RS232 to USB converter to read GPS in Manifold? I tried it on my previous
laptop and couldn't get it to work.
