Hello Scott and Jeff,
Regarding the character "?" when you export from access to oracle it is
normal when you export from Arabic environment to the English environment as
most of the computer are adjusted to the work with English as the defulat
language input and not prepared to allow the Arabic or any other language to
be seen
Please do the following in desirable machine where the user needs to see the
Arabic
1. From Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Environmental
Variables button
Create a new entry variable called NLS_LANG
Set the value to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 to receive
prompt and data in English
or
Set the value to ARABIC_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 to
receive prompt and data in Arabic
So wait there is more
2. From Control Panel -> regional language settings>
1-Set the location to any Arabic countries(UAE, Egypt) then go the
2- language tab> click Details> select advanced tab> in the Compatibility
configuration fame check the "extend support of advanced text services to
all programs"
3- Advanced tab> select Arabic(101) for the non-Unicode then check "apply
all the setting to the current user account and to the default user profile"
3. Do restart (recommended)
I hope this will solve the Arabic language problems, awaiting the results
Best Regards
Ibrahim Hassan

Scott,
Not sure if this helps, but you can export to shapefile using UTF-8. After
you have it exported, you might be able to use the free Oracle Shapefile
Loader tool and then import into Oracle Spatial.
Just a thought....
Jeff

I am trying to export my .mdb file to Oracle Object Model. My database file
contains arabic characters and when I export the data the Arabic characters
are displayed as '?' characters. I see in the help line that Export utility
generates ASCII files. Is there an option to switch to UTF-8? Are there
any other options that I can use to migrate my data to an oracle spatial
database?
