Richard,
Jim and Jeff are correct, definitely keeping up with Ingr's
releases, within reason, is good, they always have some
new things that really help.
Caveat Emptor (sort of)!! Us veterans of Ingr products,
(MGE/Microstation since 1990), know when Ingr releases
hot fixes they always break something else. It sounds
like limited testing before release, but not being on the
inside of Ingr we don't know why this keeps happening.
For example, when moving to the GM Pro hot fix
6.00.34.84 from 6.00.34.72, these are some things we
had to deal with that did not happen prior to upgrade:
1) when opening more than one .gws (yes, nice feature in
GeoMedia Pro, you can do that, it's ok and works
fine everyone - well, up to now anyway, or until
the next hot fix and it's fixed again), the second
.gws opens with all docked toolbars filling half the screen,
reducing the viewable area in the map window
2) even though there is a checkmark next to spatial filter under
the warehouse menu, you still have to click on it before it will
say "no active filter". You can't use any of the spatial filter
commands until you click on the menu to activate it
3) in the layout window, the docked drawing/scaling toolbars
will now randomly disappear. When this happens, we've found
a way to find these commands from the menus. If you try to add
the toolbar again from the view menu, it will already show a
checkmark next to it like it is loaded - go figure.
Basically, you want to read the info on what the hot fix has
included or fixed, and if it doesn't pertain to you, it's best to
skip and wait for the next one, or next one, or next....then do it.
CR's and TR's are a good thing, and we need them.
I hope this helps everyone,

Richard,
Feedback is always good. However, please keep in mind that
this list is not sponsored nor necessarily monitored by Intergraph.
The best way to get your feedback to Intergraph is by filing
a worksheet. Since you're in Canada, your link is here:
http://www.intergraph.ca/support/index.asp
Intergraph will review the worksheet and get back to you.
If it's a usability problem or just a general change, they will
typically file a Change Request (CR). If you've found a bug,
they'll typically file a Trouble Report (TR). Either way,
at least you ensure your feedback makes it back to the
company. Also, FYI - if you have the ability to upgrade,
you will definitely like the changes between 5.2 and 6.0.
They have done a lot of changes to the editing tools between
5.2 and 6.0.
Hope this helps....

Subject: [Geomedia-l] Please Change !!

Dear List:
Suggestion for future versions of GeoMedia. Please make
editing tools more "interactive".
We are having to access the Oracle library (or creating
warehouses), way too much, for seemingly simple tasks
and queries.

Example.Interactive labelling with attributes. Why is it
necessary to create a warhouse !!

I find GeoMedia as a whole lacks on-the-fly functionality,
and places too much emphasis on warehouse creation.
(currently using 5.2)
