Did you ever wonder about the
differences between addresses determined by geocoding using liner
referencing and point addresses? How are they acquired and when is one
or the other the right tool for the job? Do you know what next
generation 911 is and how GIS will fit into it? Executive Editor Adena
Schutzberg spoke with the team from Digital Data Technologies, Inc. to
tackle those questions and more.
This is one of those teachable moments
in geospatial. A small town could not figure out how to get newly
updated information about one-way streets into GPS devices. The local
paper wrote about the situation, highlighting that there were a few
misunderstandings about GPS and related technology work. Not one, but
two organizations with the power to make the change stepped up and did
so. As one commenter so clearly put it: "It is our industry and our
professional organizations who need to educate the public about the
important role geospatial professionals play, and the increasingly
complicated and sophisticated technology we use."
