Schutzberg interviewed Automotive Navigation Data (AND) CEO Maarten
Oldenhof about the state of commercial geodata, the licensing
challenges and the role the community can play in keeping data
up-to-date. This is the third in a series of interviews with geospatial
insiders and outsiders.
The slogan for Apple's collection of apps for its iPhone is "There's an
app for that." Ads highlight how there's an app for just about anything
you might want to do with your device. In large part, those apps
have driven iPhone sales. One of the downsides of the iPhone is
the limited coverage area provided by its current U.S. carrier, AT&T.
So, competitor Verizon began an ad campaign touting its extensive 3G
coverage compared to AT&T's. And, now, AT&T is taking Verizon
to task, specifically about the maps in the "There's a Map for That"
campaign.
TIP Strategies, an economic development consulting firm out of Austin, TX, has a "Geography of Jobs"
interactive map on its site that shows jobs gains and losses in the U.S. from 2004 to now.
