Exploring the Cloud
"Working
in the cloud certainly offers the potential for doing more with less
and reducing IT costs for both product producer and user while
maximizing computing capacity." That's the starting point for George
Moon's exploration which looks at the state of the cloud, different
vendor visions for it and how it may well play a role in your current
or future geospatial implementations.

GEOINT 2009: From Intel to Imaging, But Full Motion Video Stole the Show A reader commented on the progress toward a real-world model.

real-time. location-aware information about the world around us."
- David Sonnen, ISSI
Podcast: With Geodata - Developers, Not Consumers, Rule
A reader questions whether the podcast's basic premise is valid when the stakes are high.
" Whether the data source is considered important or not depends on the consequences of decision being made. ..."
- Dan Primavera, ESRI
Product Overview: Matrox TripleHead2Go
Two readers wondered if the solution was needed.
"Many people like the advantages of multiple
screens, but why is the box even needed? At least for a dual screen
setup, most pcs already have dual ports."
- Andrew Phillips, Illinois State Geological Survey
The author responded: "With both the Matrox dual and triple head
devices, you get two or three external monitors plus the one you
already have on your laptop. So if you have the triple head device you
actually can have 4 monitors total, with the dual head you get 3 total. ..."
" I agree it is a great product for laptops, but there are much better solutions for desktop PCs.
You can spend a bit more and buy a triple head video card straight up,
or you can even spend a bit less and buy 2 video cards of the same
type, and run up to 4 monitors at a much higher resolution than the
TripleHead2Go offers. ..."
- Miles Jordan, Australian Antarctic Division
The author responded:
"While
it is true that you can add multiple video cards to your desktop, not
everyone is comfortable in getting inside their computer. This device
offers the ability to add 3 monitors without having to do anything but
connect the cables, power supply and load the software. ..."

specifications.
Using ENVI and Geographic Information Systems (registration required)
ITT White Paper GIS
(Geographic Information System) professionals recognize that imagery is
essential for understanding what is happening in the world, learning
how the environment is changing, and giving context to other types of
data. ENVI's intuitive user interface and easy-to-use tools allow users
to quickly and easily view and explore their imagery.
Providing Government Collaboration and Public Distribution with Spatial Data Infrastructures (registration required)
Intergraph White Paper Intergraph's
Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) application gives you the ability to
collaborate and distribute geospatially related data. Intergraph's SDI
application provides you with the technology framework you need for
cost-effective and efficient communication involving geospatially
related information. This white paper will highlight Intergraph's SDI
philosophy and architecture, review the benefits of it for end-users,
and provide examples of successfully applied SDI solutions.
