The
View from Over There - GIS for the "Common Man" and NSDI for Everyone
Else
Conferences billed as events for
the "world" are often populated by bureaucrats who enjoy the sound of
their own voices but offer little of substance. For five days last
week, Editor in Chief Joe Francica listened intently to speakers at the
Map World Forum in Hyderabad, India to see whether the event heralded a
step forward for coordination of GIS activity inside India. And more
significantly, he looked for signs of the advancement of global
cooperation among the many organizations supporting national spatial
data infrastructures worldwide.
